This Brainstorm was to get an insight into what other magazines were like. These are my competitors in a very though market. Therefore i must try and make mine better and a bit different to there's. I will look at which one is most popular and maybe take ideas from it.
There are some useful comments here, but to really strike out for a top grade you must do some serious research into the ideas and context behind the magazines you are investigating - hip hop and rap has a very specific American background, and some of the best places to start would be to go to Wikipedia - google 'Indie/Independent music on wiki, likewise for rap/hip hop and perhaps another genre as well.
ReplyDeleteThis should then lead you into other places - stay focused on the idea of contextualising the genres, especially 'indie' which is the musical style you are most interested in developing into a magazine.
Where does Indie come from?
What is 'indie' musics key components, or it's defining features?
Why has it endured for so long, with it's origins going back to the early 1980s?
Even better, get hold of the book 'Rip it Up and Start Again' and try to read some key chapters that discuss the whole phenomenon.
This kind of research will really add depth to your project.
